Prior to this announcement, GitHub had approximately 3,000 employees. The company will also close all offices at the end of leases and move to a remote-first culture, partly due to low utilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/github.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/102393310-07478b80-3f8d-11eb-84eb-392d555ebd29.png?resize=1200%2C630\" alt=\"Making GitHub\u2019s new homepage fast and performant\" \/><figcaption>Image Credit : Github Blog<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>GitHub will also continue the hiring freeze it first announced in January and will also make a number of other internal changes to &#8220;protect the short-term health&#8221; of its business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe announced a number of difficult but necessary decisions and budgetary realignments to both protect the health of our business in the short term and grant us the capacity to invest in our long-term strategy moving forward. You can view our CEO\u2019s full message to employees with additional details on these changes below,\u201d a company spokesperson told to techcrunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a slightly unusual move for a company that prides itself on being independent of its corporate owners, GitHub will also be moving to Teams for its video conferencing needs.
